CareersinRecruitment.com gets a makeover

CareersinRecruitment.com, our UK leading job board for the recruitment industry, has now been switched across to the Simply Online platform.

This means not only does it have a fresh new look, but also has a number of additional job posting and branding products for our clients to help them fill their vacancies.

Whether it's coincidental or not, but we're also back up to number 1 spot on Google, stealing it back from arch rivals recruitmentcareers.co.uk.

Men are CV liars

According to some latest research, 1 in 10 men lie on their CVs.

BackgroundChecking.com quizzed almost 1,500 respondents and found that whilst 12% of men admitted to lying about their job title on their CV, just 7% of women did the same.

Likewise, more males were willing to exaggerate their educational qualifications, with 14% of men questioned admitting to falsifying this information on their CV and job application forms, whereas only 11% of women would do the same.

Avis Easteal, general manager at BackgroundChecking.com, said: "HR departments need to check every application thoroughly. If people believe they can get away with lying on their CV, then they will. There are serious implications for anyone who employs a person without checking their credentials, whether qualifications for the job, experience or even employment eligibility.

"For example, the recent introduction of the Immigration Act means that a company can be charged up to £10,000 or even face imprisonment if they employ someone who is not permitted to work in the UK."

Gumtree v Friday-Ad...the fight continues

Media industry 'guru' Roy Greenslade blogged this week on the Media Guardian site about classified site Craigslist and how it has expanded rapidly within the UK.

As with most blogs (although apparently not this one!) a few people started to comment about this, with one poster extolling the virtues of Gumtree.

Not wanting to miss a PR opportunity ourselves, a mystery poster named 'Jojo800' followed up with a rebuttle of his own, pointing out how Friday-Ad is best for "truly local advertising".

We'll see if Gumtree decides to respond, but if not we've had the last word!

Celebrity caller to Adline

This afternoon Jenny Hicks from Pembroke's Adline received a call from a certain gentleman calling himself "The Rock".

Whether this was the big man or someone who should have Rory Bremner's new job, a big gold star to Jenny who remained professional throughout when many of us would have cracked long before!

If you have access to sound then have a listen here:
B:\Public\Adline
This is probably the most famous celebrity caller since Katie Price called in a couple of years ago...and yes it was definitely her.

More 'isms' for your pleasure...

Following on from the popularity of the now-famous 'Craig-isms', I have received a fantastic list of 'John-isms'. The 'John' in this case is John Ellis, founding partner of IRT and now Business Development Director. John is famed not only for his ability to work 23 hours a day, but also for some of his sayings.

This list of gems was originally compiled by Matt Farrah and was passed into the capable hands of Gavin Pitts in IRT to look after.

According to the team here, one of John's classic lines was risky "I think we really need to blitz Germany"!

There are too many John-isms to list here, so once again we've picked the top 5 and you can vote for your favourite on the right.

If you know of someone else who loves to use 'isms', then please send some of their best ones through. Bearing in mind a large percentage of our company are sales people, I'm sure there are plenty of budding David Brents out there.

We have some new recruits to our job boards this week...

Hannah Gregg and Mark Harris who are based in the Simply Online Preston office and are Account Managers for SimplySalesJobs.co.uk.

Warren Lincoln joins the IRT team in Sayers Common as Account Manager for InAutomotive.com.

Also a big congratulations to Evonne Hill who has been promoted to the position of Senior Account Manager in the Simply office.

An interesting list from the Business Link organisation, who have compiled their 'top 10 sins of business email'.

Some handy tips to ensure that your emails are effective, professional and not offending the recipient.

Number one is especially relevant to all of you Tamsin users, who forget to switch your caps lock back off...'Typing all in capitals'!

England are better than Wales at football - FACT

This in from Trade-It's Craig Wallberg (good to see we got revenge for the Six Nations defeat!)...

The online teams from Trade-It, Sayers Common and Pembroke all had a conference on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week in Pembroke. People from the Pembroke office challenged us to a game of football and we accepted.

The Sayers and Trade-It joint team triumphed 7-3 against Pembroke with Joe Kidger and Steve Broad getting a goal each and me (Craig Wallberg) scoring 5.

Not really sure who scored for Pembroke or who was in the team. The Sayers & Trade-It team were made up of: Craig Wallberg, Paul Scrivens, Steve Broad, Luke Merrick, Joe Kidger, Sam Kidger and Paul Pearce.

Craig's List

In honour of Craig Middleton's fantastic one-liners when on the phone to clients, I have created "Craig's List" (thanks for the name Tim) a shortlist of my favourite phrases he has used.

To place your vote simply choose your favourite 'ism' from the poll on the right, click the button and click 'Vote' (this will then display the results automatically).

Amazingly these do actually work, backed up by the fact that Craig regularly hits target and last month contributed £11,315 to the team target.

SimplyMarketingJobs.co.uk to sponsor prestigious awards category

This week we signed a deal to be category sponsors of this year's Recruiter Awards, one of the industry's major award shows.

The awards will be held on Monday 28 April at the Grosvenor House Hotel and attracts over 1200 professionals from the industry.

SimplyMarketingJobs.co.uk is sponsoring the 'Best Marketing Recruitment Firm', a perfect fit as marketing recruitment firms make up a strong percentage of advertisers on the site.

Irish comedian Dara O'Briain will be compering the evening, so it promises to be not only a great branding opportunity for SimplyMarketingJobs.co.uk, but also potentially confusing (see below) as senior account manager Tony Charters will be helping Dara to present the award on stage!

Recruitment Rocks!

OK I'm biased, but until you other sales managers tell me how well your sales teams are doing, I will happily talk about how great our online recruitment teams are...especially when they book a total of over £212,000 in revenue for the month of March!

Simply Online booked a record of £92,600, smashing their target figure of £76,000.

And IRT showed they are no slouches either, with a final figure of £119,848 against their target of £108,000.

April is looking like it will be another spectacular month, with Simply booking £24,000 on one day this week alone!

Anyone else had a good month and want to share with the class?
